Want High Google Rankings? Build it for Humans!

If you want your website to receive lots of free search engine traffic from Google, or any other search engine for that mater, build it as though it was mean for human beings to read.  Seriously.  The search engines are way too smart for us to waste our time trying to outfox them.  Instead, give them what they want.

If people would put as much effort into building a user friendly site with value for its visitors as they do in trying to outfox the engines, they would have what they are seeking…plenty of free traffic.  I think part of the problem is that so many people are thinking short term.  Folks, it takes time to build organic search engine derived traffic.  But then you end up with a nice long-term income.

There are of course a variety of factors that determine how much organic traffic you can obtain that are out of your control.  For instance, if you choose a topic that very few people are interested in, it will be very difficult to get large numbers of targeted traffic.  That isn’t necessarily a bad thing, and it may well be a good thing.  I have a website about one of my inventions, a selective asparagus harvester.  I think that in the United States there are only a few hundred asparagus growers, and hence I expect very few visitors to the site.  If only one visitor buys one machine it will be a $100,000 plus sale, and well worth the effort of putting up the site.

What I consider to be one of the most important rules for getting great rankings in the search engine results is that you write for a human, and for the most part, an English speaking human with good grammar and use a spell checker.  This doesn’t apply if you are a non-English speaking site, obviously.

The reason should be obvious, if word processing programs can not only check spelling, but check grammar as well.  If I was a search engine and I was comparing sites to see who to put on the first page of results, and one site had poor grammar, then that would be an obvious point to consider.  Spammy sites are far more likely to have poor grammar and bad spelling than legitimate sites.

A word about keywords; do your research and use one of the online keyword research tools. A common problem with websites is poor keyword research.  If people do not search for the keywords then even though you are #1, you still don’t get any traffic.  There is no substitute for keyword tools and good research.

Optimize each page of material for one or two keyword phrases. Do not attempt to optimize for single word keywords unless there are some very unusual circumstances.  It is far easier to capture multiple word phrases.  Where ever you put your keyword phrases, make it sound natural.  Don’t use them too often.  The engines are watching.  Work them into your title tag. If your title does not mention you keywords, then the search engines give it far far less importance.  It doesn’t hurt to have some keyword phrases in your image alt tags, and in your description tag.

Use a simple clean layout.  In recent patent documents Google brings up the idea of web page clutter being a factor in ranking of web pages.  If you make the site design simple and pleasing to the eye, you will have a better chance of a good ranking than if your design is sloppy and cluttered.

Content is of course, as always, king.  Great content is an absolute requirement.  The better your content the more visitors you will get. Part of great content is lots of it.  I like to find the best keywords I can, then put up at least 10 pages of information relating to each set of keywords.  By having your keyword phrases in a number of different settings you have a much greater chance of visitors picking your site to visit when they search for those keyword phrases. If your content is poor or your usability is not good, your visitors will “bounce off” of your site and the search engines will notice.  If your visitors stay for long periods the engines notice that too.

Another thing that great content will attract is links.  Lots of inbound links can do wonders for your ranking.  If you have really valuable content the links will find you.  It does take time, but it does happen.  You can actively seek out and trade links with other appropriate sites.   Write some articles and submit them to the article marketing sites.  They allow you to include links to your site. You not only pickup links, but the articles will drive traffic to your site too.

Once you have it all put together, then you have to wait.  It just takes loads of time to gain Google’s trust. Often I begin getting some search engine traffic within a few weeks of getting a new site up, but then a month or two later my traffic drops to zero.  Then after months and months of little or no traffic I begin to get s trickle of traffic and it slowly grows till about two years after publishing it.  If it isn’t doing well after two years then you best start changing things and doing testing to see what’s wrong.

Keep improving your site keeping in mind that it is for humans, not search engines.  The search engines are getting better and better and finding high quality human friendly and useful sites, so by creating just that type of site, you assure your website’s future.

â??link Tips to Increase your Google Rankingâ?

An Internet business relies on website traffic. They find ways to drive traffic to their website from joint ventures to Google AdWords. This traffic provides a bounty of potential customers leading to sales. Another powerful method that drives traffic to your Internet business website is using links. Following is a list of link tips that not only increase the amount of traffic to your website, but can increase the quality of the traffic as well.

Link Tip #1: Always put several links to your website in the emails you send out. The goal of these emails is to get people to take action and go to your website. Provide clickable links at the top, middle, and in the P.S. at the end of the email. These links help train people to go to your website. Plus, having links in your email shortens the length of the email. This is easier on the eyes and attention span of the email reader. Essentially, you have short content in the email and then full content can be found when they click on the link and go to your website.

Link Tip #2: The â??rightâ? links can be powerful. Find websites that have a high page rank and relate to your website. Obtain a link from these websites to increase your ranking Google. Basically, you want to have high page rank sites that are related to your website pointing to you. For example, if you have a dog training website then you donâ??t want to have an Internet marketing site pointing to you. Instead, you want a site about dog shows pointing to you. Quality links are very, very important.

Do you follow these two link tips? Some people falsely believe that quantity is better than quality. For example, they have a page full of links and not much content. The links may or may not come from Google high page ranked sites. The links may or may not relate to their website. These many low quality unrelated links can actually hurt them as search engines love related content and quality links.

Analyze the links on your website. See how you can modify them to increase your rank in Google.

6 Quick and Simple Ways to Dominate Google Rankings!

The reason Google is the most successful search engine in the world is because they provide the best search results; pages ranked by tangible value. That tangible value is a combination of content and links, with links being the more important factor (they assume any pages linking in will only link to good content or risk their own ranking.)

Here are a few tips that will help you take full advantage of Google’s love of linking…

1.) Link Deep and with Relevance

So why is deeper better and what’s this about relevance? Google figured out that a link to a homepage is only good if that homepage has the information the visitor needs. If a person clicks a link for “amazing chocolate chip cookie recipe” and ends up on the home page, which has nothing of the sort, Google discounts it as a wasted link. On the other hand, if the link leads to the page containing info on the “Amazing Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe,” even five levels deep, the link has huge value to the visitor and to Google.

Want some proof? You already have it if you’ve ever used Google’s AdWords pay per click service. They will not even accept PAID links to pages that are not the most relevant for their visitors, regardless of what you are willing to pay per click. Now that’s saying something!

2.) Use Absolute Links Internally

It sounds complicated but it’s not. Absolute links are those with a fixed full URL. There’s another kind, called “relative” links that skip the first part of the domain and remain “relative” to the file structure. Let’s take a look at the difference…

Here’s the absolute link to the Google Ads page from Google’s homepage: “http://www.google.com/intl/en/ads/”

Here’s what it might look like as a relative link: “./intl/en/ads/”

Long story short; absolute links help your SEO efforts and relative links don’t.

3.) Use Keywords in Anchor Text

Use relevant keywords in your link anchor text (that is the text within the hyperlink.) Forget about “Click Here” like you see on so many sites. Not only does that not help your ranking, it actually lowers the relevancy of your real keywords because Google believes that if a word is important enough it will likely be used as part of a link to get the visitor where they want to go.

4.) Follow the 1% Solution

Make no more than 1% of your page text into links (both outbound and internal.) That is, if you have 500 words on the page there should be no more than 5 text links total. And don’t overuse the same keyword text for the links. So if you have three mentions each of three different keywords, try to use each just once in a link. Then use similar text for any remaining links.

Example: If “chocolate chip cookies” is your main keyword phrase you might use “chocolate chip cookies” as the anchor text for one link and then “my favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe” for another link.

It’s also a good idea to use 10 Links Max per page whether you have 1,000 words or 10,000 words on that page.

5.) Add a Link Failsafe

This is really simple and almost nobody does it. Links get broken more often than we like. Sometimes it’s because we moved a page and sometimes it has nothing to do with anything we consciously did (especially with blogs.) The solution is to create a custom 404 page (Page Not Found) that looks just like any other page on your site and has a simple note like “We’re sorry we cannot find the page you are looking for. However, if you love cookies of all kinds we think you’ll find exactly what you want by clicking on one of the following links…” Then of course you have a navigation system for them to follow.

6.) Get the Best Links Possible

This is extremely important yet often overlooked because it can be such a difficult and time consuming job. If you take nothing else away from this article, please take this… Finding the best possible inbound links is the single most important thing you can do to make the number one spot on Google.

Here are three tips to help minimize your time and effort while giving you results SEO experts charge an arm and a leg for.

A.) Get listed in directories.

Submit your site to the top directories like Jayde.com and DMOZ.org. Once they link to your site you will have great relevant inbound links and some instant credibility with Google.

Here are some great free directories in order of value, starting with the best… dmoz.org, jayde.com, webworldindex.com, turnpike.net, and directoryvault.com. Yahoo is important but charges $299 for commercial site inclusion.

B.) Use “Special Commands” to do the legwork for you.

The best linked sites can easily be found with a simple search command called “allinanchor:” Here’s how to use it. Go to Google and type in “allinanchor:keyword goes here” (no quotes and no space after the colon.) Now hit Enter and you’ll see the sites that have the highest relevancy for keywords used in anchor text. Look for any that you know are competitors and outrank your site.

Now take the URL for any of these and use this command “link:www.theirdomain.extension” (again with no quotes and no space after the colon.) This will show you all the sites linking in as well as internal pages linking back in.

In short, these two special commands give you an inside look at exactly how the competition does what it does with the results they get. This is huge!

C.) Use good SEO software whenever possible.

If you can afford to spend one or two hundred dollars to save huge amounts of time and get professional results, it’s well worth it. Like many SEO professionals whose livelihood depends on results, I’ve been using SEO software to get top search engine placement for years. The best ones not only help you identify great link partners but will even help you contact them and make sure they don’t cheat you in any way. I use SEO Elite (http://www.SEOeliteWeb.com) and am still amazed by all it can do.

If possible, get a tool that also does rank checking and reporting. Once you begin you’ll want to check rankings every so often and an automated tool will save you a ton of time. Oddly enough I bought SEO Elite primarily for rank checking then discovered it was worth its weight in gold as linking tool as well. So whatever tool you use, get as much out of it as you can. You might be pleasantly surprised.

Press Release + PRWeb = Top Google Rank… True or False?

Copyright 2005 Alexis Dawes

I’ve always been a big time press release aficionado.

And up until recently I’ve steadfastly taken the low tech route
by sending them out via snail-mail. Yeah, I’m a little
old-fashioned when it comes to certain things. But long-time
habits are hard to break when they produce great results.

Anyway, I was in the midst of launching a new piece of software
August 2005. As I prepared to begin my press release prepatory
ritual of labeling and stamping envelopes, it occurred to me
that since it’s the summertime, and people are always in and out
on vacation, perhaps I should give online press releases a spin.

(Okay the REAL reason I wanted to try it is because I was
feeling particularly lazy, and I didn’t feel like labeling and
stamping hundreds of envelopes. A girl has to get her mandatory
poolside hours in before the leaves start falling.)

In the back of mind I kept thinking what a waste of time this
online press release thing was going to be. But I decided that
it couldn’t hurt… I hoped.

I went through the web sites of around half a dozen press
release distributors.

Major fixtures like PRNewswire didn’t give me any toe curling
experiences. The price was high and they tend to deal with a lot
of corporate press material. My software is geared towards Joe
and Jane Q. Public, so I didn’t feel that it was going to be a
compatible match.

There were a few press release distributors that specialized in
software. And their prices were well within my targeted range.

However I decided against them because most of the outlets
they’d be mailing to weren’t within my target audience. I
could’ve compiled my own little media list for a lot cheaper.

But that wouldn’t work either. I had a chaise lounge with a
slowly fading butt imprint. I needed to fill it up again – STAT.
Compiling a list just wasn’t in the cards.

That’s when I arrived at PRWeb.com. I’ve known about this site
for several years now. But I’ve never given it much thought, as
I really hadn’t heard any super stellar reviews about it.

Now in case you’re wondering, PRWeb distributes press releases
in a variety of topical categories. You can submit your release
for free. You can contribute up to $80 and get some extra perks.
Or you can use their $119 PRWeb Direct service, which gets your
release in prestigious positions like Yahoo News and Google
News.

I opted for the PRWeb Direct service figuring that’s where I
would get the best results.

I wrote my own release, submitted my order to PRWeb, then took
out my Troll doll and rubbed him on the computer for good luck.

The next morning I got up and logged into my PRWeb account. They
have a stat’s program that tells you how many pageviews your
press released has received, and I was curious to see whether
I’d gotten 5 or heaven forbid 20 clicks. (I’m such a pessimist
at times!)

Well you could have pushed me over with a calm summer breeze
after I saw those numbers. At 7:30 am EST my press release
already had 40,000+ pageviews. By the end of day, that number
had surpassed 96,000.

Did that translate into thousands of dollars worth of software
sales? Well actually, it didn’t. But that press release wasn’t
my best work. It was good, but not great. Silly me.

However, I did get a nice little surprise.

Two days after the release I happened to be doing some searching
on Google using one of the major keyphrases mentioned in my
press release. Low and behold, there on page 1 was my press
release holding it down in the #5 position.

A similar search at Yahoo showed the release in the #8 position.

The number of keyword optimized sites for my targeted phrase
(which is “ebay seller software”) is 24,100 at Yahoo, and 531 at
Google. But that’s irrelevant news to me.

The point here is…

#1 – My marketing message made it onto the coveted first page of
Google for a nicely targeted phrase. No sandbox. No waiting for
my brand, new site to get spidered.

#2 – My marketing message made it onto the coveted first page of
Yahoo for a nicely targeted phrase. No trying to figure out
Yahoo’s algorithm, rhyme or reason.

#3 – The press release was delivering traffic to my web site
BEFORE it even got listed in the top 10 at Google and Yahoo. In
fact, the release was featured on many different auction
resource and news sites.

PRWeb is what I like to call a Back Road tactic. It get’s you a
top 10 rank, without having to go through the usual SEO
channels. And it’s probably some of the best traffic you can
get, short of somebody clicking directly on your site.

There aren’t many reliable and consistent Back Road’s. This is
only the second one I’ve come across that fancies both Google
and Yahoo. So it’s definitely worth taking advantage of.

So now back to my original question… Press Release + PRWeb =
Top Google Rank… True or False?

True.

Now excuse me while I soak in the slowly diminishing rays of
summer. PRWeb has got my back.

My Experience with obtaining natural google ranking

Web site optimisation is the most difficult bit in online business. I know no online business person who would not wish more traffic to his/her site or who would not care about his natural google page ranking. Page ranking is the key to your success, the key to your online income, the determinant of your online business future.

How to go about it? How to get the best natural position in google page ranking? If you are promoting a site with a hugely competitive environment, your most desirable keyword is likely to generate millions of pages. And your page is likely to be in some grim position on page one thousand something. You may despair but there is a way out of it. All you have to do is to analyse all the key words that you would like to obtain for your site. Look at the most popular keywords and sites that managed to obtain first positions for those. It is more likely to be multimillion corporations, which can afford those huge advertising campaigns and links from important respectable sites to their sites as to keep their page ranking going.

You can be smart though and find a way out of this situation. The most popular key words generate untargeted traffic and most likely you will not need to be on the first position for those. If you narrow your thoughts down you can find very specific targeted keywords that can bring people who are already ready to buy your product. The chances are that the competition for those keywords is not so intense either. Do a search again and you will see that all those big corporations do not always come up in searches for very specific targeted keywords. And they do not need to be there. If they are attracting untargeted traffic they are likely to attract clients from there without thinking about targeting their campaigns. So you are making your entry to this market through the backyard – being smart and clever and using very targeted keywords campaign.

Once you have established your keywords, you will have do decide, which page you are going to move. Your main moving page should contain all your chosen keywords selected as headings and marked in bold. It always sucks to move the first page, as you will have to place your SEO text somewhere on this page and bold your keywords, invariably spoiling your perfect design. But you will have to find your way out of it for there is no other way in moving your site. You can choose a page within your site but this method has its disadvantage. Your chosen page will come up first in all searches. And users have only one second to decide whether they want to stay on your site or navigate away. By moving an internal SEO page you are likely to increase your bounce rate and this will slow your business down.

Don’t forget to include as many articles as you can that contain your chosen keywords in internal pages of your site. Googlebots do take notice of them and once they have read the keywords they will authomatically move your page up in ranking.

There is much more to be said about moving sites in google. I promote web hosting companies and online dating agencies and know how difficult it is to move up in google rankings. I hope that my advice was somewhat useful to people how would like to promote their webpages.

Ways to Get High Google Rankings

Getting your website to rank high on Google organic search result listings is like getting free advertising for your website. The organic listings cannot be bought and your website can only appear on it through proper optimization (SEO). SEO is the bedrock for online marketing and all webmasters should optimize their websites right from the beginning. This is the reason why web masters takes help of link building services and the services to buy high PR links.

By getting high Google rankings, it will bring you more visitors and probably new customers too. In this article, let me share with you 5 ways to get high Google rankings:

1. Develop the right keyword list. Targeting the right keyword is the key to SEO success. If you optimize the wrong keyword, there will be no conversion.

2. Use unique Title and Meta Description for every page of your website. The keywords that you place in your Title and Meta tags should be relevant to the content of the page. The Title tag is like a book title; it tells the search engines what the page is about. Therefore, it is extremely important for you to use relevant titles for every page of your website.

3. Write good content and place it on your website. Content is king in SEO. Good content can be in the form of words, videos, audio, widgets, etc. Your objective is to provide value to your visitors and turn your website into a link bait. With good content, other webmasters will start linking to you and this will increase your website link popularity. Link popularity is one of the key factors for SEO success, so do not overlook it.

4. Good SEO copywriting. Adding keywords in the right place will help increase the visibility of the keywords. But, you need to be careful with this approach. Stuffing too many keywords within the content will make Google thinks that you are spamming them. So no matter what, always consider the human element. Write for human to read instead of Google.

5. Build more back links. link building services increases your website link popularity which will help it to get higher rankings on Google. You can build links through article marketing, press release submission, link exchange with other webmasters, directory submission and social book marking.

These are some of the things that you should do to get high Google rankings. SEO takes time, especially link building services. You need to work on it consistently to see results. Develop your link building strategy plan and work on it religiously. Good luck!

Strategies For Reaching The Number One Google Ranking

I was recently interviewed by the popular website, recognized expert on how to improve Google rankings, my favorite topic. Here are the main points to consider when shooting for the top spot on the world’s largest search engine.
1. Begin with properly formatted Meta Tags. The meta tags, including your title tag, description tag, and keywords tag, are important for classifying your web page and communicating to the major search engines the content of your page. Although meta tags are not as important as they once were, they are used for many purposes including how your listing appears in search engine results lists.
2. Focus on keyword density. Are you trying to optimize for a particular keyword or keyword phrase? Keyword density is the concentration (as a percentage) of your keyword phrase on a particular web page. Keyword density should range between 2 and 8 percent. To determine your keyword density on a given page, divide the number of times your keyword appears by the total word count of the page.
3. Use proper page formatting. Search engines love to see emphasis. You can identify your keywords with specialized tags such as title tags and properly formatted text. Bold, italicize, and underline your keywords at least once on the page you are trying to optimize.
4. Generate links to your website through article marketing and link building activities. Submit original content to article directories and authoritative sites in order to generate back links. When a third party website links to your site, search engines take notice resulting in an improvement in your overall search result placements. Build as many back links as you can.
5. Obtain listings in Web directories. Large directories like the Yahoo! Directory, DMOZ and others are important to improving your overall search results. Many websites use these directories to display websites when users search on a particular term. If you are not included in the directory, your website may never appear as a search result option.
6. Bookmark your website on popular social bookmarking sites. Websites like Digg, Delicious, and Reddit are common and will generate links back to your website. By listing your site on popular bookmarking websites, you signal the search engines as to the presence and popularity of your website.
7. Update your site with quality content. To makes sure that you remain in the good graces of popular search engines, you will need to keep the content of your website fresh and up to date. Always add new content when you can.
These strategies are important for anyone interested in improving search results for their website. Begin any search engine optimization effort with a thorough review of your websites strengths and weaknesses.
After you make changes to your website, create a site map and submit it to Google. Site maps are a great way to get your entire website spidered by leading search engines. They help the engine find all of your web pages quickly and easily.
Once you apply all of these techniques, you will quickly begin to see improvements in your search engine results.

How Keyword-Rich Domaining Will Increase Google Rankings

Everyone who wants a website to be hosted on the internet will have a purpose. The common aim for every website owner is to get more visitors to the website. When you run a website for your online business, you have to concentrate more on getting many visitors to your website. Search engine traffic is the highly targeted traffic, but to get visitors from search engines, your website must have high Google rankings. Apart from on page SEO, it is possible to increase search engine rankings by taking advantage of domaining. While buying domain name is an important task for a webmaster, many people ignore the importance of domaining. A domain name which contains the keywords of your website is likely to increase search engine ranking.Search engines will first look out for URLs containing keywords that the user searched. If the search keyword matches the keyword in the domain name of your website, your website will be displayed in the search engine results increasing the possibility of getting more number of visitors. Your website will get higher increased ranking if it contains keywords in its domain name. Using exact keywords in the domain name is a small change in your domaining plan, but it can give you positive results which you thought were tough to achieve.Domaining has to be considered before hosting a website. If you have already established a website that has a few visitors, you should not change the domain name because users will remember the website only using the domain name. Though domaining is important for search engine rankings, you cannot expect to increase the ranking of your website only with the help of keyword rich domain names. Lot more steps are involved in search engine optimization and the importance of any of those steps cannot be ignored if you want higher search engine rankings. While choosing domain names, many webmasters are unable to choose between branding and keyword rich domain names. If your website is aimed at selling products in a niche and if you have a small budget for marketing your website, then keyword rich domaining can greatly help you achieve your goal. Brandable domain names are easy to remember for your repeating visitors. You cannot expect your visitors to search for the same keyword every time to reach your website. Also, search engine ranking is not a constant number and the ranking of your website changes continuously. With more and websites being hosted on the internet, finding the domain name that you like has become near impossible. Many people buy domain names at lower rates and wait for some time to sell it for a higher price. When you search for domain names, come up with as many names as possible that reflect your business. If you cannot buy domain name that contains exact keywords of your website, you can look for names that describe your website niche. For business websites, hyphens in domain names are to be avoided even though search engine optimization is not affected by the hyphens in the domain names.
